Family Business Management

Family hospitality, spanning three generations.

One of the oldest buildings in Madonna di Campiglio, built by her grandparents in 1910, Villa Caola is run by siblings Dante and Agnese, who used to let out a few rooms during the summer – initially the only time the property was used as a holiday home. It later also housed the Carabinieri barracks, and it was within these walls that Mr Giovanni Lorenzetti began his career as a trader.

In 1957, Agnese and her husband Giacomo ‘Jack’ Caola opened Bar La Montanara. The name derives from their passion for mountain songs.

From 1976, management passed to my father, Ivo, who, together with my mother, Alda, turned it into a meeting place both for the locals of Campiglio and for groups from Milan and Brescia who used to visit – and still visit – our wonderful Brenta Dolomites.

In 1994, after almost twenty years in business, Alda and Ivo decided to close the bar to the public and to renovate and expand the premises. Thus, on 5 August 1995, Bar La Montanara became exclusively Hotel Garnì La Montanara.

However, Ivo and Alda decided to keep the spirit of the place intact – a spirit that was, and continues to be, so much loved by all our guests. The breakfast room is the old, historic bar. It was important to them to preserve this distinctive ‘corner’, a testament to many years of hard work and sacrifice, yet a period rich in great satisfaction. Even today, people still pop in to take a trip down memory lane, recalling those lovely evenings spent over a plate of tripe, a bowl of goulash soup, a sing-along and a glass of blueberry grappa.

I currently run the business alongside my husband Alessandro, with the help, support and invaluable advice of my dad, putting the same passion into it as always and paying attention to every detail to ensure our guests feel at home.

We hope that in the future our daughter Alessia will share the same passion for this work.
